FAIRFIELD COUNTY WORKFORCE CENTER COMPLETES FINAL WEEK OF SUMMER EXPLORE CAREER CAMPS

CARROLL, OH - On Friday, July 29, 2022, the Fairfield County Workforce Center concluded the fourth and final week of its Summer Explore Career Camps. Over the course of these four weeks, students were able to participate in one-week sessions of three industry-specific camps: the Healthcare Heroes Camp, Totally Tech-Bot (Robotics) Camp, and Mad Science Builders (Skilled Trades) Camp. In total, 83 certificates of completion were awarded to Junior High students for successfully completing camp.
“One of the underlying goals of these camps was to demonstrate how STEM concepts are applied throughout many different industries, including skilled trades and construction,” said Amanda Lemke, Director of Workforce Innovation at Hocking College. “All of the students were exceptional learners and did a fantastic job presenting what they'd constructed or learned.”

The three camps offered this summer were taught by various Ohio University Lancaster and Hocking College faculty members. They were free to any junior high students in Fairfield County and funded by the Fairfield 33 Development Alliance, the Fairfield County Commissioners, and a grant from the Ohio Department of Education. Other individuals assisting in the camp were Jeff Eversole of Lancaster City Schools, Madison Wright, a recent Career Readiness and Lancaster High School graduate, and Karie Stone, Career Navigator from the Fairfield County Educational Service Center.

“This program was a wonderful opportunity for not only the students, but their parents too,” said Adam Sedlacko, Workforce Development Specialist at Fairfield County Economic Development. “Anything we can do to provide education and resources to local families on affordable career pathways that still lead to highly-skilled, well-paying jobs is a win for everybody in Fairfield County – especially since these careers are greatly in-demand here locally.”

“I had to come back to the Workforce Center because I wanted to be a part of what the world will become,” said Madison Wright, recent Workforce Center and Lancaster High School graduate. “I will always recommend this building, these programs, and the people who give 100% every day.”
